Old Town Playhouse proudly presents the Tony Award-winning musical, Company, by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, opening this week Friday, January 13 at the Main Stage.

Synopsis
Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking modern musical is a mature, intelligent and wildly funny look at relationships, vulnerability and “being alive.” On the night of his 35th birthday, Robert struggles to think of a wish. The lone bachelor is uncertain whether he should simply be happy with his lot or whether he should wish for his own romantic partner. Over a series of dinner parties, first dates and thoughtful conversations, Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of commitment.

Unlike most “book musicals” which follow a clearly delineated plot, Company is a “concept musical” composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order, linked by the celebration of Bobby’s 35th birthday. It was among the first musicals to deal with adult themes and relationships. The original production was nominated for a record-setting fourteen Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Score (music) and Best Lyrics.
