TRAVERSE CITY: Northwestern Michigan College community cooking classes took first place in Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine Red Hot Best awards in 2015. See why at the annual Festival of Foods on Saturday, February 6. The Traverse City event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is held at Hagerty Center on Grand Traverse Bay. See live demonstrations by Northern Michigan gourmet food artisans and award-winning area chefs including Eric Patterson and Jen Blakeslee from The Cooks’ House, Mickey Cannon from Tuscan Bistro, Pete Peterson and James Bloomfield from the soon-to-open Alliance Restaurant, Jenni Scott from Betty’s Hot Dish food truck, and many more.

Whether you’re a serious home cook or simply enjoy food, you’ll be inspired and energized by this learn-a-lot-quickly experience. Get fresh ideas, try an array of artful foods, learn new cooking skills, and meet foodie friends as you savor the local culinary scene.

Register ahead and choose four one-hour sessions from 16 options, including ethnic cuisine, cheese, spices, seafood, garnishing skills, and more. The $85 cost includes four demonstrations and lots of tasty samplings. Hagerty Center is located at 715 E. Front Street in Traverse City.
