Four-time Olympic curler Debbie McCormick will be a part of the Traverse City Curling Club’s “Rocktoberfest” On October 3 & 4, 2014 from 7-10:30 pm at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.
The general public is invited to participate in beginning curling classes, watch exhibition matches, and shop for curling gear at Debbie McCormick’s mobile pro shop.
“The TC Curling Club is launching its inaugural season this fall with four-week leagues October through December,” says club president Don Piche. “What better way than to have an Olympian here to show us how it’s done? Our event poster says ‘Meet a rock star. Then, become one.’ That about sums it up. We want anyone who is interested in curling to have the opportunity to learn, and then curl throughout the winter.”
An informational meeting is being held at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at 7 pm. The meeting will cover information about the club, membership, leagues, learning to curl, Rocktoberfest details and more! If you are interested in curling this season it is recommended that you attend!
Registration is required for Rocktoberfest curling classes at a cost of $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Classes will be offered from 7-8:30 pm and 8:30 to 10 pm. Registration can be found online at the TC Curling Club website. Representatives of the curling club will also be on hand at Rocktoberfest to assist with optional club memberships (just $30) and team or individual registration for fall leagues. About the Traverse City Curling Club:
The TC Curling Club was established in 2014, following the popularity of curling at the winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. A spring “Learn to Curl” event was organized by an ad hoc committee led by Don Piche, a Traverse City resident and owner of Performance Chiropractic. More than 500 people attended the spring event, fueling the fire to start a curling league here in the Grand Traverse Region. Centre Ice Arena has partnered with TC Curling, investing in three sets of curling equipment so participants need not purchase anything! League play will begin mid-October and continue through spring 2015, culminating in the area’s first Bonspiel, a curling term for a tournament that is expected to attract teams from around the Midwest and Canada. It is the mission of the TC Curling Club to grow, teach and compete in the ancient game of curling.
