About Systems Analyst

Interface Analyst Description: The Systems Analyst – Interface is to provide analysis, design, testing, implementation and ongoing support of HL7 interfaces connecting to our hospital’s systems. This position works closely with other internal staff members as well as staff at connected practices, clinics, and hospitals to ensure that our services are reliable and responsive to the health care community’s needs and quality patient care.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience/Education Must have one of the following (required):

  • Associate’s degree (preferably IS/Business or healthcare emphasis) with 2 years’ relevant experience (IS/Business or healthcare)

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably IS/Business or healthcare emphasis)

  • 4 years in healthcare or IS/Business experience

Experience in Information Systems (IS) beneficial

Experience in healthcare beneficial

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Understand HL7 standards and have working knowledge of interface engines

  • Great communication with EMR providers/clients

  • Experience with Mirth or other interface engine

  • Cerner EMR experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS)

  • Ability to test, debug, modify, tune and document HL7 messages as needed

  • Maintain and support existing HL7 interfaces

  • Determine the HL7 interface customizations required for each project

  • Write programming code required to translate data into different programming languages to move data across the interface; 4+ years programming experience

  • Participate in testing of any new releases of the HL7 messaging system

  • Knowledge of SQL Server and JavaScript

Technical Knowledge (required)

  • Working knowledge of MS Desktop products

  • Knowledge of Client/Server applications

  • General understanding of:

  • Common programming languages (like C++ and Java)

  • IT Selection and Implementation Methodology

  • Software development best practices

  • Required technical documentation including flowcharts

  • Interpreting vendor technical requirements

  • Relational database concepts

  • Operating Systems (such as AIX, Windows, MAC and Linux)

  • Types of hardware, storage and computing capacity of computers

  • Back up processes and disaster recovery

  • Common technical terminology

  • Computer security procedures and protocols

  • Network topologies

  • Report writing tools

    ORGANIZATION: Under the general supervision of a Manager, but may receive advice and assistance from other leaders/managers of Information Systems.
