Plans, directs and coordinates the storage and distribution operations for the facilities within the assigned business unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiates with carriers, warehouse operators and insurance companies for services and preferential rates.Â Develops and documents standard and emergency operating procedures for receiving, handling, storing, shipping or salvaging products or materials.Â Â Issues shipping instructions and provides routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.
Confers with department heads to coordinate warehouse activities, such as production, sales, records control and purchasing.Â Â Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to, and reviews the work of transportation department personnel.Â Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding methods and procedures in assigned areas.Â Â Acts as liaison with other departments and prepares written reports concerning assigned aspects of work.Â Â Interviews and recommends candidates for new hire.Â Â Plans day-to-day departmental operations, assigns people, authorizes overtime and controls costs.Â Â Plans week-to-week and month-to-month departmental operations.Â Â Coordinates with Production, Purchasing, Production Planning, Sales, Engineering and Quality Departments to ensure operation standards and goals are met.Â Â Arranges for necessary shipping documentation, and contacts customs officials in order to effect release of shipments when necessary.Â Â Arranges for storage facilities when required.Â Â Evaluates freight costs and the inventory costs associated with transit times in order to ensure that costs are appropriate.Â Â Examines invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariff and customs regulations when necessary.Â Â Advises sales and billing departments of transportation charges for customers’ accounts.Â Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.Â Â Performs those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including provision for the selection and development of employees, pay administration, budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department and ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality.Â SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
