This position is Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Education: – High School graduate or GED equivalent is required. – Secondary level courses in medical or business programs are preferred. – Successful completion of a basic Medical Terminology class required within the first 6 months of HIM employment. In lieu of class, 2 years’ recent, relevant experience. – Customer relations seminar (i.e. AIDET, dealing with difficult people) will be required as course availability dictates. Work Experience: – A minimum of one year clerical experience preferably in healthcare, but not required. – Experience in Microsoft Office is required.
– Experience in any of these applications is preferred: Kronos PowerChart Chart tracking/deficiency system Transcription and dictation system STAR MPI Scan Trax CAPABILITIES Ability to apply Joint Commission requirements, HCFA regulations, HIPAA regulations, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and department procedures when reviewing a medical record to identify deficiencies that could jeopardize hospital certification, legal and/or financial status. Ability to work at a pace that achieves both a high quality and quantity of product. Ability to solve problems effectively and independently. Ability to effectively communicate and listen in a tactful and understanding manner Ability to use effective written skills to document issues and/or resolutions. Ability to handle multiple telephone calls. Basic typing/keyboard/computer skills ORGANIZATION: Reports to the manager of Coding & Data Integrity Services SPECIFIC DUTIES 1. Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare. 2. Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare. 3. Promotes personal and patient safety. 4. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times. 5. Greets customers upon arrival to the Health Information Management Department. 6. Provides customer service with form completion and record copy retrieval. 7. Accepts deliveries on behalf of the HIM Department. 8. Provides primary telephone coverage for Information Release and routes calls appropriately. 9. Adheres to all federal and state information release and confidentiality laws. 10. Provides primary support to Information Release Specialists. 11. Sorts, routes and preps incoming USPS mail and interdepartmental mail. 12. Reviews all new requests from incoming mail, prints visit information sheets from STAR and enters request information in MS Access database. 13. Sends, receives, and distributes faxed medical information at direction of Information Release Specialists. 14. Enters details of medical emergency information releases performed by other areas into MS Access database. 15. Accepts and processes employee advocate authorizations. 16. Prepares medical records and related information, including invoices when applicable, for specific information release categories, while adhering to strict deadlines. 17. Enters details of all audit and other information releases into applicable tracking software. 18. Receives and processes incoming charts from NMSA in Cerner Profile; performs return chart process via Profile and places work order for NMSA pick-up in O’Neil application. 19. Assists with training of new employees. 20. Performs all other duties as assigned.
