About Senior Desktop Engineer

The Senior Desktop Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day engineering and 3rd level support for Munson Healthcare’s desktop infrastructure. You will be on point to analyze business requirements and recommend technologies that will enhance availability, reliability, scalability and security. You will work with various teams to provide a complete end user experience and conduct proofs of concept and pilot testing of new solutions. This person will design, build, and enhance the PC imaging process to stay current with hardware and software standards.

Your day to day role will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a global desktop infrastructure

  • Building and maintaining global standard Windows images

  • Research of emerging technologies for endpoint devices

  • Coordination with Help Desk, Install Team and other support teams for issue resolution

  • Creation and maintenance of detailed documentation of Desktop infrastructure, processes and procedures

  • Planning and implementing hardware and software upgrades

  • Design and maintenance of the SCCM environment in collaboration with the infrastructure group

  • Deploying software packages using SCCM 2012

  • Providing advanced patch management via SCCM 2012

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    Experience/Education:

  • Must have one of the following (required):

  • Associate’s degree (preferably IS/Business or healthcare emphasis) with two years’ relevant experience (IS/Business or healthcare)

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably IS/Business or healthcare emphasis)

  • Four years in healthcare or IS/Business experience

  • Experience in Information Systems (IS) beneficial

  • Experience in healthcare beneficial

    Required Technical Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the operational characteristics and requirements of multiple versions of server/workstation based Windows operating systems required

  • Ability to effectively monitor, analyze, initiate corrective actions that insure server/workstation reliability and data integrity required

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows required

  • Troubleshooting network connectivity issues required

  • Familiar with disaster recovery and high availability requirements required

  • General understanding of troubleshooting print queues required

  • Experience with backup technologies such as Netbackup and TSM required.

  • Experience with file share procedures and operations required

  • Experience with Active Directory required.

  • Experience with HP hardware required

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills of print strategies required

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office required.

    Preferred/Beneficial Technical Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Certifications (MCSE) preferred

  • Familiar with Storage Area Networks beneficial

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Group Policy beneficial

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the interactive and operational characteristics of multiple network protocols as they relate to the server/workstation environment beneficial

  • Ability to methodologically and effectively troubleshoot and resolve Intel server/workstation hardware, connectivity and software failures. beneficial

  • Basic knowledge of the principles of project management beneficial

  • Familiar with Microsoft Exchange 2010 beneficial

  • A+ and Net+ certification beneficial

  • Knowledge supporting VMware, Citrix (Xenapp), Xen, Cerner beneficial

  • Experience supporting Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 beneficial

    Miscellaneous

  • Ability to work independently required.

  • Ability to review, create, modify and improve standards, processes, policies and procedures that improve service quality and reliability. required

  • Partner with appropriate teams to conduct and oversee root cause analysis on mission critical or service level failures; required

  • Experience writing technical documents required.

  • Ability to train entry level staff required

  • Ability to work with analysts, vendors, and others to troubleshoot and develop new documentation and processes required.

  • Ability to monitor systems and processes required

  • Accurately record system events required

  • Previous experience working in a secure environment required.

  • Ability to develop, assemble, and provide education on new processes required

  • Ability to develop job tasks, workflows, process improvement, etc. required.

  • Development of staff including evaluations, mentoring, and educating required.

    ORGANIZATION:

Under the general supervision of a Manager but may receive advice and assistance from the Director of Information Systems, Lead Technical Analyst(s). A working relationship with all Information Systems staff must be maintained.

A professional working relationship with staff from user departments, other regional healthcare facilities, and hardware vendors must be maintained.

The senior operator is under the supervision of the on-call Manager whenever the Manager is unavailable.

No managerial and supervisory responsibility
