SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse – Provider Relations and CME (Continuing Medical Education) Specialist will serve as the central point of contact for Munson Healthcare CME programs and activities. This nurse will work with key stakeholders and clinical contacts from around the Munson Healthcare system to coordinate, plan, and execute CME activities. The RN will oversee the processes and procedures required to maintain compliance in CME activities and will be involved in other Provider Relations projects relating to communication, education, and development.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Healthcare experience required.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Encouraged to obtain the Certified Healthcare Continuing Professional Development Professional (CHCP) credential through the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEhp).

ORGANIZATION

This position reports to the Manager of Provider Relations and Continuing Medical Education.

Receives assignments from other departmental staff, including the Director of Physician Services and the Chief Medical Officer.

Has cooperative working relationship with all system hospital administrators, service line executive directors, physician leaders, and other clinical leaders.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  1. Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare.

  2. Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare.

  3. Promotes personal and patient safety.

  4. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.

  5. Leads the development, planning, coordination and implementation of the Munson Healthcare CME Program activities.

  6. Accountable for compliance of all Munson Healthcare CME activities in accordance with ACCME, AOA, AAFP, and other regulatory standards.

  7. Works collaboratively with administrators, leadership, educators, and physicians at all Munson Healthcare hospitals in order to develop and maintain accredited CME activities and learning opportunities. Maintains knowledge of adult-learning principles and incorporates those principles in leading the development of continuing education programs.

  8. Engages in critical discussions to integrate CME into the process for improving professional practice and negotiates fit between theory and problems faced in practice.

  9. Supports efforts to integrate CME and quality efforts, tying CME activities to essential system strategies, quality indicators, performance and quality improvement initiatives, regulatory requirements, and other vital clinical initiatives.

  10. Supports efforts to embrace CME as an inter-professional endeavor and actively collaborates with members of the healthcare team and Staff Development to develop, plan, organize, and implement continuing education activities that serve the inter-professional healthcare team including quality, safety, and performance measures.

  11. Seeks new opportunities to expand the MHC CME program including incorporation of simulation, on-demand learning, and other innovative adult learning opportunities throughout the Munson Healthcare system.

  12. Works collaboratively with the Chair of the CME Committee to develop monthly CME Committee Meeting agendas, facilitate monthly meetings, and maintain relationships with the CME Committee members. Carries out committee duties and action assignments as appropriate.

  13. Works collaboratively with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty, Residents and students to ensure a continuum of medical education and maintain and strengthen relationships with the MSU community.

  14. Supports the use and maintenance of the CME program database and technology including record retention, marketing, publications, forms, and user-accounts

  15. Leads the maintenance of the Munson Medical Center CME accreditation through the Michigan State Medical Society, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians including oversight of each re-application process and oversight of all processes related to compliance for accreditation.

  16. Supports system provider communication by working on the coordination of communication vehicles, assisting with development of provider communication content, and disseminating communications as directed.

  17. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
