Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through NBRC required. Proficient in all aspects of neonatal, pediatric, and adult respiratory care. Three to five years of clinical experience as a respiratory therapist required. Prior experience with utilization of clinical pathways or protocols required. Bachelor of Science desirable. Knowledge and/or experience with quality assurance and continuous quality improvement philosophies and tools desirable. Knowledge and/or experience with information systems and software desirable.
Assessments: Related to the adult, pediatric, or neonatal patient, the respiratory therapist: Â· Performs an initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s respiratory status. Utilizes approved Respiratory Care protocols, as prescribed by the physician, to administer respiratory care as indicated. Â· Collects data in a systematic and continuous manner. The data is accessible, communicated, and recorded. Â· Recognizes and reports pertinent changes in respiratory status to the patient’s physician. Plan: Related to the adult, pediatric, or neonatal patient, the respiratory therapist: Â· Schedules ordered respiratory care for optimal therapeutic results. Â· Provides intervention/recommendations to medical and nursing staff regarding appropriate respiratory interventions. Implementation: Related to the adult, pediatric, and neonatal patient, the respiratory therapist: Â· Promotes and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Â· Participates in conferences and reports with other disciplines to coordinate services. Â· Acts as an advocate for the patient. Â· Applies pertinent research findings to respiratory practice. Related to the adult and pediatric patient, the respiratory therapist: Â· Assists patients in assuming responsibility for providing and arranging care and guides them toward self care, as applicable. Â· Assists patients in understanding implications of the diagnosis and recommends treatment consistent with their readiness, in collaboration with the physician, as applicable. Â· Assists patient in utilizing their capabilities and making the best possible adjustment to their limitations. Â· Teaches patients in relation to their health needs, as applicable. Specific Duties: Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Care: Â· Performs all routine respiratory care including oxygen and continuous aerosol therapy, aerosol treatments, and MDI instruction and assists CPT/PD, I.S., IPPB, USN, sputum induction, CPAP therapy and continuous medicated aerosol therapy as per department policy and procedure. Â· Performs monitoring procedures including oximetry, capnometry, ABG draws, weaning parameters, and peak flow measurement as per department policy and procedure. Â· Performs emergency airway management and functions as a member of the Code Blue Team. Â· Performs ventilatory care and management in the intensive care areas. Â· Performs respiratory care assessments for all patients cared for, assists in development of respiratory care plans when needed. Â· Demonstrates proficiency annually for ventilator use, intubation, and BCLS. Â· Performs continuous quality improvement (CQI) measurement as directed by the manager. Â· Performs daily charges. Â· Participates with all mandatory hospital inservices. Â· Assists with routine equipment processing and supply stocking. Neonatal Care: Â· Provides respiratory care as a member of the NICU transport team. *Quality Improvement Responsibilities Â· Serves as a resource to all respiratory care professionals, students, and assistants with respect to respiratory care protocols, pathways, assessments, and case management. Â· Serves as a resource to physicians, physician extenders, and nursing staff with respect to respiratory care protocol, pathways, assessments, and case management. Â· Serves as a resource to departmental staff regarding continuous quality improvement philosophies and tools. Â· Participates in the education of respiratory care staff, students, assistants, and other health care professionals. Â· Performs patient assessments as delineated in respiratory care protocols and pathways. Performs patient education as delineated in departmental policy and procedure. Â· Must be familiar with all respiratory care guidelines, policies, and procedures â including clinical practice guidelines. Must be familiar with organization policies and procedures as they related to respiratory care and patient assessment treatment and education. Â· Works with physicians and physician extenders to develop respiratory care patient care plans. Â· Monitors quality of respiratory care services and quality of patient care through the development and use of approved departmental process improvement indicators and activities. Â· Represents the respiratory care department in a variety of interdisciplinary committees, teams, and activities â especially with respect to respiratory care and interdisciplinary pathways and protocols. Â· Provides input and assists the manager in monitoring and evaluating departmental continuous quality improvement activities. Â· Represents Munson Healthcare and the respiratory care department in community and professional activities. Â· Provides inservicing of respiratory care staff. May serve as preceptor for proficiency testing (related to patient assessment and clinical protocols and pathways. Â· Provides orientation to the department for new employees. Â· Performs other duties as assigned.
