About Resource Clinician – Operating Room


  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing and registered in good standing with State of Michigan.

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required. MSN preferred.

  • BCLS required. CNOR preferred (must complete within 6 months).

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with focus of expertise and demonstrated competency in surgical nursing. Previous leadership and teaching preferred.

  • Self directed professional who is able to function autonomously in a leadership role to assist and support staff nurses in decision-making and problem-solving issues related to the delivery of care to our patients.

  • Able to function in a calm and effective manner in crisis situations.

  • Assess skill levels of new employees and determines extent and duration of orientation and training required.

  • Assists other patient care units in developing and presenting educational programs when appropriate.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with groups.


Works under the direction of the Operating Room Manager.

Works collaboratively with all nursing units and Staff Development.

Serves to supervise and evaluate skills and activities of new employees in orientation and training.

Responsible for assisting with educational development of new and existing staff.

Responsible for annual educational plan (meeting all OR requirements).

Responsible for Perioperative 101 Internship (facilitation and oversight).

No direct clinical contact with patients

  10. Acts as a clinical consultation/educator by teaching and guiding staff in assessing, intervening and evaluating the delivery of care.

  11. Acts as a positive role model by collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals and creating positive relations to plan and deliver quality nursing care.

  12. Acts as a clinical consultant in the use and standardization of equipment used in the operating room.

  13. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and clinical competence in:Planned care for patients and families.Identifying learning needs of patients and families.New or existing equipment.Policies and procedures.

  14. Assists staff members in planning and evaluating care for patients using nursing theory and standards.

  15. Consults with unit manager and staff to identify staff development needs and assists in planning and presenting in-services to the staff.

  16. Assists in evaluating staff members for their educational and clinical needs.

  17. Actively participates in unit and hospital shared governance activities.

  18. Serves on various nursing and/or interdisciplinary committees to foster quality services throughout the organization.

  19. Assists unit manager in evaluating the quality of patient care and formulating solutions to identified problems. Attends appropriate staff meetings and other unit specific committees.

  20. Maintains knowledge of current research and progress in operating room nursing and patient care through educational and organizational activities.

  21. Communicates and fosters nursing research directed toward improved patient care.

  22. Participates in local, state and national nursing activities.

  23. Participates in the development of nursing standards and procedures.

  24. Assists in the development and implementation of unit goals and objectives through collaboration with staff and unit manager.

  25. Recommends the need for materials, supplies, and equipment.

  26. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
