Join a specialty team of nurses dedicated to providing life-saving care in a state-of-the-art facility. The Everett Kircher Dialysis Unit in the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center provides over 10,000 life-saving dialysis treatments per year, operating three shifts of patients, six days per week. The open floor plan with views of the Bay and evidenced-based architecture offers patients a healing environment. Our specialized hemodialysis nurses enjoy a nurse to patient ratio maximum of four and eight-hour shifts on day or afternoon shift. Weekend commitment is typically every other Saturday only, with the Outpatient Department closed on Sunday’s, Christmas and Thanksgiving Day


  • Provides nursing care for patients with End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) receiving this life-saving treatment. Educates patients on kidney disease, organ transplantation, and infection control methods to safely manage their conditions.

  • Collaborates closely with other members of the inter-professional team to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized written plan of care based upon a physiological, psychosocial, spiritual assessments.

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and listening skills are essential in order to safely assess for and achieve hemodynamic stability in patients with ESRD.

  • Demonstrate precise clinical and technical skills in a fast-paced work environment that requires teamwork and a firm commitment towards teamwork and a culture of safety.

  • Successful completion of a full-time, 12-week training program for inexperienced applicants.

  • Performs other duties as directed.


  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

  • Associates Degree of Nursing.

  • As a Magnet organization, for those hired into an RN position after January 1, 2014, it is required to obtain a BSN within five years of your start date as an RN with McLaren Northern Michigan. Certification in the specialty area of practice is strongly encouraged.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate through the American Heart Association required.


  • Previous dialysis experience is preferred.

  • Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred.
