The Acute Rehabilitation Registered Nurse is a critical member of the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) which cares for over 350 patients annually. The ARU is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year providing continuous physician and rehabilitation nursing coverage. Patients spend on average three hours a day in therapy. Our patient population starts at 18 years of age and our average length of stay is approximately 12 days. Become an integral part of a patient’s road to maximum recovery and join the ARU Nursing Team.


  • Uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions.

  • Assesses, monitors, detects, plans and takes appropriate action to prevent potential physiological complications and promotes optimal level of health.

  • Provides nursing care for a wide population of patients receiving rehabilitation from brain injury and stroke, post-op open heart, major multiple trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation, hip fractures and other medical conditions.

  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized written plan of care based upon a physiological, psychosocial, spiritual assessment.

  • Exercises strong critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication and listening skills.

  • Embodies the Organization’s mission through genuine caring for patients and their families.

  • Performs other duties as directed.


  • Associates Degree of Nursing.

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

  • As a Magnet organization, for those hired into an RN position after January 1, 2014, it is required to obtain a BSN within five years of your start date as an RN with McLaren Northern Michigan.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate through the American Heart Association required.


  • Previous rehabilitation nursing experience preferred.

  • CRRN preferred.
