PSI – Operations Manager – Pharmacy
McLaren Northern Michigan located in Petoskey, MI
â¢Oversees daily delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients of the hospital.
â¢Analyzes systems and operations of the department via quality control measures.
â¢Identifies operational problems and opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate actions on both.
â¢Ensures controlled substances are purchased, distributed, and documented in compliance with state and federal laws.
â¢Ensures drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner (e.g., floorstock, automated dispensing systems, surgery carts, emergency carts, “crash” carts, etc.).
â¢Ensures drug items are appropriately billed to various areas or patients to promote financial viability of the hospital.
â¢Ensures pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items in the Formulary.
â¢Procures non-formulary items after exhausting Formulary alternatives to provide optimal drug therapy.
â¢Participates in and/or provides support to hospital committees as agreed upon by committee members and the Director of Pharmacy.
â¢Participates in departmental and hospital performance improvement activities to promote quality in the medication use process.
â¢Assists department and hospital in maintaining compliance with accreditation standards.
â¢Assists in presenting medical, nursing, or department in-service programs.
â¢Performs duties of Staff or Clinical Pharmacist, as required.
â¢May participate in “Code Blue” situations and document activities occurring during the situation, where appropriate.
â¢May be required to serve as Pharmacist-In-Charge.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:Graduate of a College or School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
Maintains licensure in good standing as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of practice (MICHIGAN).
Preferred:Advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare administration.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Required:Knowledge of clinical interventions, education, and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served by considering the patient’s age, growth and development, medical condition, physical abilities, psychosocial status, potential language barriers, and level of comprehension; hospital and departmental policies and procedures, pharmaceutical terminology, unit dose system procedures, aseptic technique for preparing sterile dosage forms; and current developments in pharmacy to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. Skilled in preparing medications for administration to patients; analyzing drug therapies regarding patient condition, disease state, and concomitant therapies and making appropriate, drug-related recommendations to medical, nursing, and other health care staff; communicating verbally and in writing to patients, medical, nursing, and other staff members.
Preferred:Prior experience in hospital pharmacy management/supervision.
