About Patient Access Representative

Includes every weekend 3-11pm shift and variable days at POMH.*

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS High school graduate. Two years of experience in a hospital or health related field with focus on medical registration strongly desired. Minimum of 6 months in PFS or respective department required. Must score 95% or more on PAR test. Completion of medical terminology course also required. Applicants must be proficient in MS Word with knowledge of Windows based applications and possess a proven ability to effectively use multiple computer systems and be able to pass a typing test of at least 40 net words per minute. Proven ability to communicate effectively with both public and coworkers orally and in writing, and the ability to work positively with all levels of clinical staff. Familiarity with ICD 10 and CPT – 4 coding systems and knowledge of banking with cash, petty cash, deposits and accounts receivable desired. Assertiveness, organizational skills, effective time management, flexibility and self-motivation are essential. Human relations and interpersonal skills are required. ORGANIZATION Reports to the Manager of Patient Access Services and Physician Offices. SPECIFIC DUTIES 1. Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Munson Healthcare and Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital. 2. Embraces and supports the Performance Improvement philosophy of Munson Healthcare. 3. Promotes safety for patients, residents, visitors, co-workers and self. Supports National Patient Safety goals and initiatives. 4. Has basic understanding of Relationship-Based Care (RBC) principles, meets expectations outlined in Commitment To My Co-workers, and supports RBC initiatives. 5. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times. 6. Demonstrates adherence to all policies and procedures. As the first line of communication with the public and outside callers, this individual must create a professional image for Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital through outstanding telephone courtesy, pleasantness, the ability to keep their composure and the use of judgment and tact in dealing with others in normal working contacts. 8. Maintain a professional working relationship with patients, patient’s families, staff members, ancillary services, medical staff and present a good hospital image to the people inside and outside the organization in a manner that encourages teamwork. 9. Based on knowledge of records and procedures must recognize potential problems and bring them to the attention of the appropriate person, use judgment when dealing with outside calls as to what information to give out and how to handle a problem call and to work effectively with other team members and departments. 10. Receive all patient information from physician’s office and ancillary departments, organize information for action and easy retrieval, gather and organize information in regard to medical histories and physical, lab, x-ray, EKG reports and other pertinent patient information from hospital departments and physician office for patient surgical and procedure charts in a timely manner. 8. Must be able to obtain patient demographics from patients in a patient room and have conversations with patients to collect deductibles/co-pays. 9. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
