Licensed by the State of Michigan to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Master of Science degree in Nursing and is ANCC or ACNP board certified as a Nurse Practitioner or can achieve board certification within 6 months.
Required to achieve certification as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) within two years from hire date.
Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), Master of Health Science (MHS) or Master of Medical Science (MMSc) and is board certified as a Physician Assistant
Have at least 90 oncology continuing education hours within the past 5 years as well as maintain practice and education requirements as outlined by ONCC for the AOCNP certification.
Experienced in the area of oncology preferred.
Is a self-directed professional with the ability to make independent judgments in providing direct patient care, educate and supervise cancer care clinical staff, and coordinate oncology programs/clinics.
Demonstrates computer skills and willingness to learn necessary health IT applications that promote maximum clinical efficiency.
Reports to the Clinical Director Oncology Services and Medical Director for Gynecologic Oncology Services.
Accountable to collaborating physician(s) as outlined in the collaborative practice agreement(s).
Provides direction to RNs, Medical Assistants, Oncology Clinical Navigators, and other categories as appropriate.
Prescriptive authority is delegated by Medical Director for Gynecologic Oncology Services, under the Michigan Board of Nursing regulations.

Performs clinical functions as outlined in a collaborative agreement collectively created by the NP, oncology service line director and collaborating physician(s) upon hire. Maintains evidenced based clinical care in line with national guidelines when available/appropriate.
Inpatient (acute care) â
Admit patients to the hospital, perform daily rounds, write orders, and take call within rotation as outlined in collaborative agreement. Coordinate care provided by multiple specialists including hospitalist providers and nurses.
Assume responsibility for evaluating patients whose attending oncologist is unavailable because of outreach commitments, vacation or illness.
Follow-up visits, chemotherapy teaching, symptom management, and H&P exams as referred by physicians
Infusion clinic âurgent careâ
Respond to urgent concerns on patients receiving treatment at the infusion clinic.
If infusion services are needed, NP will facilitate by writing orders and overseeing care. If an admission is necessary, direct admission orders to be written by NP in collaboration with oncology physician.
Inpatient care â
Assist in the development of efficient and standardized transfer protocols for patients needing an oncologic diagnostic work-up
Assist in the development of protocols for management of common oncologic problems seen in the emergency room and inpatient setting to be used by MMC and affiliate hospitals for the purpose of improving efficiency and quality of care.
Patient navigation â
Be the point person in collaboration with the clinical navigator for a specific group of patients.
Maintain efficient and effective collaborative relationships with all physician specialists involved in oncology care including nurses, social workers, primary care physicians etc.
Affiliate infusion sites/oncology clinics â
Coordinate close to home care when possible
Work closely with affiliate sites to provide clinical consultation and direction functioning as a liaison between outreach staff and physicians as well as patients.
Survivorship care â
Work with patient, oncology physician(s), and primary care providers to establish an individualized survivorship plan for oncology patients assigned to your service.
Clinical trials –
Maintain knowledge regarding available clinical trials and support the patient, physician, and clinical research staff by assisting with coordination of patient enrollment and ongoing requirements of the study
Development of new alliances and processes –
Continually seek ways to develop partnerships to promote a âculture of researchâ for the MMC oncology program.
