MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or GED equivalent. Computer proficiency with Windows based programs. Human relations and interpersonal relationship skills required. Effective verbal communication skills. Exercise courtesy, pleasantness, and tact in dealing with others in normal working contacts. Able to present a good hospital image to the public. Aptitude and willingness to engage in all aspects of patient care. Demonstrated competence in patient care situations.
Under the general supervision of the Unit Manager, receives delegation from a Registered Nurse. Work subject to frequent interruptions. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Recognize the patient record as a confidential, legal document. Obtain/Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) in adult maneuvers (child and infant may be required by some departments) at all times. May be required to lift more than 35 pounds. A Nurse Assistant’s responsibilities in Maternity may include:
Performing basic patient care needs and services essential to caring for the patients’ personal and comfort needs Complete personal hygiene Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills, including but not limited to: V/S, newborn hearing screenings, direct patient care under RN supervision, assisting with circumcision set up and care, and unit clerk clerical functions Collecting specimens Transporting patients between departments Observing, reporting and recording vital signs of the patients Assisting in keeping accurate records Assist in admitting, transferring and discharging patients according to hospital procedure Assumes all unit clerk duties as a relief staff Performs duties of supplying and restocking unit items. Performs housekeeping duties in lieu of housekeeping staff; performs cleaning tasks on specific equipment following manufacturers and hospital guidelines. Cleans and reorders instruments and maintains par levels Maintains quality controls and monitors compliance with quality assurance requirements as assigned Assists with the medication storage, stocking, transportation, and checking of expiration dates as delegated Utilizes department tools for documentation according to established guidelines. Uses only hospital-approved abbreviations. Writes legibly at all times Uses critical thinking skills and exercises prudent judgment in responding to crisis situations
