ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Associate Degree in a health care related field required, preferably in health information technology. In lieu of an associate’s degree in a healthcare related field, one year of college classes plus two years of proven leadership skills within Medical Record Services will be considered. Minimum 3-4 years hospital medical record department experience. Experience in working and problem solving with hospital staff from multiple facilities and physician offices. Demonstrated computer skills with a working knowledge of transcription systems, chart management software, and MPI systems. Basic mathematical and computation skills. Demonstrated proficiency in records management/maintenance. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology. Typing speed of 45-50 words per minute with high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to independently analyze a problem and coordinate the solution among a variety of “system” users in a timely fashion. Demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer systems and educate others as to their use. PROBLEM SOLVING: This position must be able to exercise independent judgment with respect to problem identification, resolution and follow-up. Position will require handling multiple tasks in a given period of time. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the MPI Data Integrity Coordinator and the Manager of Medical Record Services. Receives assignments from the MPI Data Integrity Coordinator or Manager of Medical Record Services. May receive assignments from other Information System staff relative to specific aspects of processes performed. Has constant working contact with medical records and transcription staff, Information System staff, and other clinical and administrative departments. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical environment is a modern, air-conditioned, well-lighted and clean office. Repeated interruptions and noise are commonplace. The departmental atmosphere is active and this position must adapt to the diversified needs of the medical center. Work may involve evening, midnight, and/or weekend responsibility. May require additional hours than normally scheduled to resolve issues affecting computer systems and patient care. Must be able to travel to affiliate locations and physician offices as necessary. SPECIFIC DUTIES: Basic working knowledge of Munson clinical and administrative systems and their MPI’s and how issues associated with these systems, whether systematic or procedurally impact the MPI’s and the clinical information attached to the MPI data. Monitor systems for MPI daily operational functioning. Identification of MPI daily issues and the communication of those issues to appropriate system personnel and assist in system resolution as requested. Analyze reports/work queue to identify potential duplicate patients within the computerized clinical record system. Investigate to determine the correct patient/information and correct as necessary. Coordinate with ancillary departments, the merging of all duplicate patients within the computerized clinical record and associated feeder systems; including Medical Record Services systems. Perform merges as appropriate. Maintain integrity of paper record systems in Medical Record Departments for Munson Medical Center and affiliate locations. Report the status of the accuracy of the MPI and possible error trends to the appropriate personnel. Perform data integrity monitoring to insure that the computerized record is accurate, complete and timely and meets the clinical, legal and financial requirements for a medical record. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
