About Medical Assistant

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the physician and/or mid-level practitioner as needed in patient care, medical records, medication administration, procedures. etc. under a provider’s direction or orders within the scope of practice of the certification/training held
  • Maintain current license/certifications as applicable
  • Perform designated lab work as needed and qualified
  • Maintain an adequate level of lab supplies
  • Maintain cleanliness and adequate stock of the exam rooms (i.e. gloves, exam gowns, table paper, etc.) Empty bio-hazard containers/bags as needed to assure safety and OSHA compliance, clean exam tables and change pillowcases after each patient use
  • Retrieve incoming supplies and restock supply room in a timely manner
  • Monitor the provider’s schedule throughout the day for smooth flow
  • Act as liaison between patient and physician/mid-level practitioner
  • Ensure correct data entry and maintain data and documents in MCIR and EHR as required by policy and procedure and law
  • Record prescription samples given by logging information into patient’s electronic health
  • Discard expired medications appropriately and keep drug sample closets clean and organized
  • Secure drug sample closets at the end of each day
  • Handle and package medical waste appropriately
  • Complies with all OSHA standards, rules, regulations and policies
  • Maintain knowledge of changes and requirements of insurance companies to aid in the completion of referrals and laboratory tests
  • Uphold RHC standards, rules and regulations
  • Collect and document necessary data in EHR as required to meet meaningful use measures
  • Incorporate, support and practice those capabilities adopted as a PCMH
  • Practice HIPAA compliance at work and off duty
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
