ENTRY REQUIREMENTSCurrently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan. Demonstrated ability to use the computer with Windows format or demonstrate competency with this format within a period defined by the nursing orientation policy.
ORGANIZATIONAccountable to the Unit Manager or designee of the assigned patient care unit. Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. May receive instructions from the Unit Manager, Nursing Administrator, or staff nurse. No managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
Works collaboratively and effectively with all members of the Patient Care Team. May be required to rotate shifts, work additional hours or work other units within the same nursing division or with similar patient care requirements.

MMC Inpatient Nursing Pool LPN Role: LPN will cover units: B3, B3S, B4, C3 (adults), C4, D4, C1R, C1M and Short Term Unit. They may also cover as necessary and appropriate as a unit clerk or safety companion. The Nursing Supervisors make daily assignments for staff according to hospital need. LPN’s will be oriented and maintain competency in all units they work. Complete any mandatory education required by unit/hospital. LPN’s are not required to care for acutely suicidal, assaultive, 1:1 self-injury patients on Center 1. LPN’s will maintain practice within the LPN scope, policies, procedures, and the patient’s plan of care. Demonstrated competence in patient care situations. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques. Sets up sterile field and maintains according to department specific guidelines. Follows all department policies/procedures/guidelines relevant to intraoperative patient care procedures. Assisting surgeon during a procedure when requested and under direct supervision includes: Holds retractors placed by surgeon. Cauterizes instrument placed by surgeon. Passes and places ties at the surgeon’s request. May assist the circulating nurse in the following manner: Assists in moving the patient to and from the surgical bed. Assists in positioning and prepping of patient for the procedure. Cleans and prepares instruments for flash sterilization. Assists in the application and securing of dressings. Keeps surgeon’s preference lists up-to-date. Has knowledge of where all supplies and equipment can be located in the department.
