The Director of Nurses provides leadership on the MHC POMH Skilled Nursing Facility that results in high quality of life for long stay and rehabilitation residents. This person works within the Munson continuum of care to provide a high quality of care with in the continuum. He/she budgets, plans, and organizes work of the SNF employees to meet State and Federal Regulations within the constraints of available revenues.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. MSN/MS or MBA preferred
Experience in both an acute care and long term care setting desirable.
Demonstrated administrative and supervisory ability.
Demonstrated ability to lead/direct others and to work effectively with persons of varied background and educational experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice including the nursing process with special expertise in the clinical specialty managed.
Additional education in management principles and teaching is preferred.
Knowledge of skilled and long term care regulations highly desirable.
Certification in geriatric rehabilitation nursing desired.
Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer
Directs and supervises the work and activities of all staff who work on the SNF.
Works collaboratively and effectively with all POMH Managers.

Directs and evaluates the nursing care of residents according to hospital
policies and procedures and accepted principles of practice including
nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, resident education, appropriate
documentation, and discharge planning.
Provides leadership in the administration of resident care.
Delegates the staff the authority necessary for the performance of their duties and ensures that adequate controls exist to render delegation effectively.
Makes out schedule for nurses and nurse aides.
Provides leadership and direction in developing and implementing nursing standards consistent with hospital and nursing policies, medical care goals and standards on the unit.
Is knowledgeable about and ensures fair and consistent application of
- Assesses staff continuing education needs and plans to assist staff in
meeting those needs.
- Develop and implements unit goals and objectives annually in concert with
administrative goals. Reviews and reports on progress quarterly and
revises as necessary.
- Develops and recommends annual capital equipment and operations
budgets. Is accountable for maintaining the integrity of the unit budget,
utilizes resources appropriately.
- Determines number and qualification of staff needed to deliver quality
patient care within established productivity levels.
- Ensures evaluation of performance of all staff annually on a timely basis an
recommends appropriate action. Provides corrective action according to
