Job Details:

The Trauma Clinical Reviewer is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting clinical data elements for TQIP eligible cases as required for participation in the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), an American College of Surgeons quality initiative. The Clinical Reviewer’s chief responsibility is to work collaboratively with the trauma program registry staff, clinical staff, and the trauma program manager to collect and submit reliable data to TQIP in a timely manner. The Injury Prevention Coordinator collaborates with other health professionals, agencies, organizations, and community members. The Injury Prevention position is responsible for developing, coordinating, marketing and evaluating internal and external injury prevention and outreach activities, based on the American College of Surgeons – Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) standards, Trauma Program objectives, relevant epidemiological data for trauma, and identified needs both within the institution and in the community.

JOB DUTIES

  • Provides assistance to the Trauma Program Manager, Registrar and Trauma Medical Director.

  • Abstracts information on patients eligible for inclusion in the Trauma Registry database, which focuses on TQIP requested information.

  • Participates in the collection of additional data as required by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

  • Preserves the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the Trauma Registry database.

  • Participates in departmental quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as directed; through identification of quality improvement opportunities, goal setting, collection and evaluation of data, implementation of action plans, or related applications.

  • Assists with preparation of monthly Trauma Committee Meetings, as requested.

  • Assists with collection of statistical data and prepares spreadsheets, graphs and presentations.

  • Implements measures to monitor outcomes and effectiveness of injury prevention programs. Develops program evaluation methods and incorporates them into program designs. Critically analyzes and devises program changes based upon evaluation findings. Maintains documented evaluations of individual programs to assure quality and effectiveness. Provides monthly report of all programs for the injury prevention / community outreach programs and initiatives.

  • Facilitates injury prevention activities based upon local and regional data. Injury Prevention activities may include but not limited to community health and safety fairs; fall prevention / safety programs for older adults; team with surrounding groups to expand a senior safety program through grants, donations, etc. as available.

  • Promotes safe driving, including campaigns focusing on proper use of safety restraints, alcohol awareness, distracted driving awareness, mature driver considerations, and youthful driver considerations.

  • Develops and maintains community partnerships to meet the educational needs of groups at risk for injury.

  • Collaborates with existing national, regional state and local injury prevention programs, participating in local events sponsored by outside agencies as appropriate.

  • Promotes guest relations, anticipates and responds to the needs of others; provides assistance in a courteous and timely manner; treats others with care and respect maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years minimum of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred/required 5 years from your start date)

  • Previous experience in Trauma related field. Quality improvement, injury prevention program or database management experience preferred.

  • Previous experience with data abstraction from medical records, and or analyzing and interpreting processes of care, and clinical outcomes. Previous experience with trauma registry applications preferred.
