About Continuous Improvement Specialist

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Ø A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred. A degree in Industrial Engineering, Nursing or other health care discipline, Computer Science or Business is preferred.

Ø A minimum of three years process redesign experience including project leadership experience is required. Requires the ability to understand and apply various tools and techniques of performance improvement, including Lean / Six Sigma, to work processes. Prior health care experience in clinical process re-design and provider order entry systems preferred.

Ø Must have strong interpersonal skills and must communicate and interact effectively with employees from all levels within the organization. Must have the ability to evaluate and discuss departmental issues in an objective and non-threatening manner. Must be passionate about improving processes able to facilitate positive change. Must have excellent speaking and presentation skills.

Ø Demonstrated proficiency with desktop computing and Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint is required. Experience with statistics and simulation / business modeling software preferred.

ORGANIZATION

This position is under the supervision of the Director of the Performance Services department. This position may also receive assignments from project leads and sponsors.

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, although may give direction to other department members in the course of project management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  5. Must display credibility and integrity in the handling of information sensitive to the hospital, a particular department, and/or members of the medical staff.

  6. Must be able to effectively lead quality, process improvement, and redesign activities using best practice performance improvement methodologies, tools and techniques.

  7. Able to lead, facilitate, and consult with cross functional teams to analyze existing flow of people, activities and materials, employee work methods and utilization, equipment and computerized systems. Will lead studies to determine service capacities, evaluate staffing needs, analyze workloads, design systems for improved performance and value.

  8. Must display excellent project management skills and systems thinking to conduct studies requiring the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data collected from a variety of sources in order to complete projects relating to cost/profitability, capacity planning, service development, facilities design, etc.

  9. Directs project teams in the collection, analysis, and presentation quantitative data and information. May also take responsibility for the development and coordination of appropriate work plans for interdisciplinary project teams.

  10. Is able to teach performance improvement concepts, tools, and techniques to others on a just-in-time basis.

  11. Acts as a resource to other hospital staff members in the collection and analysis of data to support project initiatives.

  12. Able to learn and understand statistical process and control charts and sampling techniques. Able to use regression, correlation, and forecasting techniques.

  13. Performs all other duties as assigned.
