About Communication Specialist-North Flight EMS


High school graduate or GED, with a working knowledge of northern Michigan Geographical regions.

Typing, office skills and computer experience to include basic word processing and keyboarding skills.

Ability to understand follow complex oral and written instructions.

Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies and the general public.

Demonstrated ability to stay calm in stressful situations.

At least one (1) of the following is desired: Emergency Services experience; previous aeromedical or 911 dispatching experience OR completed NAACS training course. Successful completion of NAACS training course is required within one (1) year of employment.

Must hold and maintain a valid Michigan Drivers License and maintain a satisfactory driving record, as defined by the North Flight insurance carrier.

Must successfully complete a State of Michigan criminal background investigation.

Must successfully complete North Flight pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and maintain satisfactory test results for continued Drug and Alcohol Testing in conjunction with established North Flight, Inc. and Munson Healthcare Policy(ies) for same.

Successful completion of Munson Medical Center/Munson Healthcare pre-employment physical examination, to include a hearing test.

Successful completion of North Flight Communication Center Orientation Program.


Reports to: North Flight Communication Center Supervisor.

Has constant working contact with physicians, nurses, other hospital staff, managers, director, administrative staff and general public.

Conducts self in a professional manner while on duty, displaying a neat and clean appearance in prescribed attire. Collaborates with healthcare professionals in the transport of the patient. Respects the needs and rights of co-workers, patients and the public.


Attends job related inservices and continuing education programs. Maintains working knowledge of all communication procedures, polices and federal regulations relating to operation of the ground and air ambulances services.


Works within a well lighted comfortable area. Subject to elements of stress and interruption of activities. Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
