This spring, Matt Killman, assistant winemaker at Mackinaw Trail Winery, will lead students in the basics of winemaking. Matt is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Plant and Environmental Biology and experience at Chateau Grand Traverse. He will share his passion for winemaking and the science behind making truly great wine. The classes are hands-on, giving students the knowledge and the experience to start their own winemaking.
Cost includes materials.
Introduction to Winemaking
Thursdays, March 10 – 17

First-time and experienced winemakers will master the basic principles of good winemaking. No prior experience required.
Basic Wine Chemistry and Evaluation
Thursday, March 24 
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Learn the fundamentals of wine chemistry, simple tests to analyze your product and progress, wine microbiology, preventing failures and maximizing results with basic chemical analysis.
