The 10th annual Traverse City Polar Plunge will help raise funds for over 21,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics. Taking place Saturday, February 4, it’s the second year the event will be held at North Peak Brewery/Kilkenny’s Irish Public House in downtown Traverse City. Participants will jump into a pool in front of North Peak’s patio and celebrate afterward in Kilkenny’s. (See some of the crazy costumes from previous years below!)

“The event helps raise awareness of the athletes and their efforts,” says Steve Baehr, who has participated for three years. “Local involvement helps raise money to cover the costs for training, health screening and competition, so there is no cost to the athletes. I like to think of it as a perfect opportunity to check this off your bucket list while supporting a fantastic cause. Freezin’ for a reason!”

  • Registration: 9:30–10:45 a.m.
  • Parade of Costumes: 10:45 a.m.
  • Plunge: 11 a.m.
  • Awards & After Splash Bash immediately following in Kilkenny’s

There are 25 Polar Plunges in Michigan this year. Polar Plunges are a Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) event. LETR is one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for Special Olympics.

You can register up to the day of the plunge, but to get a T-shirt, you must register by Monday, January, 30. Sponsorships can be purchased through Friday, February 3, but the earlier the better to get on more printed materials.
