11th Annual Art of Recovery Show Opens November 8—

The 11th Annual “Art of Recovery: The Human Journey” show opens November 8, 2017 in the McGuire Room at the Traverse Area District Library at 610 Woodmere, Traverse City, with a community celebration and opening reception planned from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Sponsored by Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, the event celebrates the resiliency and healing power of people and features art by professional and novice artists alike. Some of the artwork will be for sale and there is no cost to attend the reception.

Art entries are being accepted through October 27 at any Northern Lakes Community Mental Health office. Offices are located in Traverse City, Cadillac, Houghton Lake and Grayling. Anyone who lives in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Wexford, Missaukee, Crawford or Roscommon Counties is eligible to enter.

There is no cost to participate. The show is not juried; all entries will be shown as space allows.

The drawing attached is by Dannie, who says that for her, “Art offers hope for recovery.” The piece is entitled Inner Child.

“This event is to celebrate the healing power of people,” says Deb Freed, one of the event organizers. “Everyone recovers from something at some time during their lives. Whether it is grief and loss, separation, divorce, mental or physical illness, addiction, violence, trauma, homelessness, or loss of a job, the need to persevere is something we all share. Each year we invite people to submit art and see the show because we have heard over and over how important it is to many people who have faced challenges in the eye and come out the other side. It’s uplifting to connect with people who want to express themselves and share their hope with others.”

The show continues through November 29. There is no cost to attend.
