Nurture your youngster’s creative skills with Summer Youth Workshops at Oliver Art Center.

Nuts 4 Nature: An environmental day camp offered by the Benzie Conservation District, right here at Oliver Art Center. For youth aged 8-12 years old, June 19-23, 1pm to 4pm. The fee is $15 per day or $70 for the entire week. Call 231-882-4391 ext. 14, or email [email protected] to register.

Clay Creatures: During a 2-day workshop, Sarah Abend will teach the children basic clay hand-building techniques to create an imaginative clay creature sculpture. July 11 & 12 or July 18 & 19. Ages 6-9 come from 10am to 12pm. Ages 10 and up come from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

Clay Pendants: Children will work with jewelry designer and ceramist Sarah Abend to create one-of-a-kind pendants in clay. July 13 or July 20. Ages 6-9 come from 10am to 12pm. Ages 10 and up come from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

Felting Fun: Get ready for bubbles! Sarah Abend will teach the kids how to make their own treasure bowl by hand with wet felting techniques using wool, water and bubbly soap. All ages, July 14 or July 21, 10am – 12:30pm.

Alcohol Ink on Yupo Paper & Tile: Blend intensely colorful alcohol ink over Yupo paper or tile to create spontaneous intuitive designs bursting with color. All ages, July 21, 10 am – 12 pm.

Exploring Drawing: Artist and Gallery Coordinator Kirsten Ross will lead students through drawing exercises to explore their imagination and express their creativity. July 25 1:30pm – 3:30pm. All ages.

Exploring Painting: Artist and Gallery Coordinator Kirsten Ross will lead students through a collaborative painting adventure to learn about line and form. Each student will leave with his or her own painting. July 25, 1:30 – 3:30pm. All ages.

Exploring Collage: Using Eric Carle’s book Animals, students will draw inspiration to create their own animals using painting and collage techniques. July 26, 10am – 12pm. All ages.

Exploring Metal Tooling: Metal tooling, a Mexican folk art, dates back thousands of years. Students will be introduced to this traditional art form and will leave with a completed piece of artwork. July 26, 1:30-3:30pm.

BBB, Me, and You – Postcards from an Exhibition: With Oliver Art Center’s “Bugs, Birds, and Beasts” exhibit curator, Nancy McKay, learn what BBB’s can teach us about making personal connections to our environment and with each other. Sunday August 13, 1:00 to 3:30pm.

Jane Moore Black Children’s Scholarships of $20 are available to kids and adolescents who need assistance attending one of our classes. Scholarships do not apply to Nuts 4 Nature classes.
