3pm What’s Cookin’? You can almost smell the fish frying as you hear stories about the fishing industry in Lake Michigan. Bring your favorite fish recipes to swap with other cooking enthusiasts. Fish Tug Aloha deck in Glen Haven, near Cannery, 30 min.

7pm Evening Program: Starry Starry Night Meet before the sun sets to plan an evening of stargazing. Discover the locations and legends of stars in the night sky. Platte River campground amphitheater, 45 min.

Saturday, September 28

noon Beach clean up Helping hands for America’s lands! Celebrate National Public Lands Day by joining us in cleaning up a Sleeping Bear Dunes beach. Meet at the visitor center, 2 hours.

1pm Dunes in Motion How did this 110-ft dune and all of its neighbors get here? Where are they going? Find out at this fast, fun talk. Dune Climb, every 15 minutes until 2:30pm.

3pm Stories of the Dunes Hear the legends of Sleeping Bear Dunes and tales of the Manitou Passage. Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, #9 Overlook, 30 min.

7pm Evening Program: Voices of the Manitous Today the Manitou Islands exist as virtual ghost towns, yet less than a century ago they were bustling logging, farming, and maritime communities. Join a park ranger to hear their stories. DH Day campground amphitheater, 45 min.

7pm Evening Program: Nightly News Hear the latest happenings at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Platte River campground amphitheater, 45 min

Sunday, September 29

1pm Glen Haven: Capitol of D. H. Day’s Kingdom Feel the past come back to life on a guided walking tour of this once- bustling historic village. Meet in the Cannery in Glen Haven,1.5 hours, less than 1 mile. (Closed toe shoes and long pants recommended.)

3pm “You have to go out, but you don’t have to come back” Learn about the rescue boats of the US Lifesaving Service and US Coast Guard. Program presented by Tim Dring, a retired US Naval Reserve Commander and currently on the board of directors of the U.S. Life-Saving Service Heritage Association.Cannery, 1 hour. Monday,

October 21 8pm Star Party Celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with a starry event. Join park rangers and the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society for an evening under the stars. Meet at the Dune Climb for the guided night sky event.
