Fresh off the heels of their successful inaugural luncheon, the Professional Ladies of Manistee (PLM) have secured a high-profile speaker for their second meeting: United States Senator Debbie Stabenow.
PLM co-founders Mary-Kaye Wilkosz and Janet Duchon say the group is “absolutely thrilled” that Senator Stabenow is presenting at the September 5 luncheon. “She embodies what PLM stands for – connect, educate, grow – and we cannot wait to meet her and learn what she has to share with the women of Manistee County,” says Duchon.
Senator Stabenow is highly respected throughout the country. After serving as a Michigan State Legislator and then U.S. Congresswoman, she made history in 2000 as the first woman from Michigan elected to the United States Senate. She currently serves as Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and is a member of the Senate Energy, Finance and Budget Committees.
PLM member Kathryn Kenny said, “Senator Stabenow has been at the forefront of key issues like strengthening Michigan’s economy, keeping healthcare affordable for Michigan businesses and protecting our Great Lakes.” Kenny adds, “This is a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from one of our elected officials on those issues and many others that are important to us and our families.”
However, it’s not just politics that PLM members hope to hear about from the Senator. “It is very telling of Senator Stabenow’s priorities that she is making time to speak to a room full of women,” says PLM member Gini Pelton. “We come from many walks of life. We are teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, bankers, realtors, life coaches, volunteers, mothers, the list goes on. Each person brings something unique to the table and we will all benefit in different ways by hearing what Senator Stabenow has to say, taking what we learn from her, and applying it to our work in the community.”
The luncheon is open to the public.
Cost is $20; seating is expected to be very limited; advance reservations are highly encouraged. RSVP to 231.510.1555 or email [email protected]
