July 12 – Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962) – California granite icon of poetry and environmentalism.
July 19 – Lorine Niedecker (1903-1970), the greatest woman poet you never heard of, author of My Life by Water and more.
July 26 – R. S. Thomas (1913-2000), Wales’ “strangest clergyman,” and “one the major English language European poets of the 20th century.”
August 2 – Galway Kinnell (1927-2015) – Poet and Bear, author of When A Man has Lived A Long Time Alone.
August 9 – W.S. Merwin at 90 (1927–), a lifetime of grounded prophecy.
August 16 – Fleda Brown (1944–) in person – former Poet Laureate of Delaware, resident of Traverse City. The Woods Are On Fire, New and Selected poems, published spring 2017 by the Ted Kooser Contemporary Poetry series, University of Nebraska Press.
