The Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting marketing workshops on January 23 and 30 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at North Central Michigan College. The two-part workshop will be given by Janet Begrow Chambers, president and owner of Beacon Marketing Solutions, a full-service marketing communications firm that recently relocated to Charlevoix from Central Pennsylvania.
“This workshop is designed to help businesses and non-profit organizations create an effective marketing plan so they can utilize their marketing dollars wisely while achieving their marketing goals,“ said Chambers. “I have given this program at least ten times over the last 15 years. Attendees leave feeling more confident that they have a written marketing plan with objectives and actionable items for the upcoming year. The program helps attendees define how to reach the right audiences with the right messages in the most cost-effective manner,” she said.
The first workshop on January 23 will cover the marketing plan framework. Attendees will have worksheets to fill in before they arrive that cover identifying key target audiences for their products and services and defining marketing goals. This session will help attendees put together a SWOT analysis – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats – of their businesses. From here, attendees will learn more about defining how their business compares to competitors and how to define a competitive advantage.
The second workshop on January 30 will delve into marketing tactics including media choices, collateral materials, internet opportunities like social media and websites, and other marketing strategies. This session is designed to give attendees a general understanding of the various marketing channels and costs associated with these avenues.
Chambers holds a B.A. in marketing from Michigan State University. Before starting her own marketing communications firm in 2001, she worked for two national advertising agencies and held high-level marketing positions with Kish Bank, Universal Health Services and SNI Homecare. Chambers has always enjoyed working with small to mid-sized businesses. She has serviced clients in the retail, financial, healthcare, hospitality and business-to-business areas.
As an active community member, Chambers taught business courses at the college level, served on the boards of several organizations, and volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is excited to be back in Northern Michigan where she grew up
The program cost is $150 for members of the Petoskey, Charlevoix, Boyne City, East Jordan and Harbor Springs chambers of commerce. The non-member price is $200. Attendees are expected to attend both sessions. Space is limited so early registration is suggested.
