Oliver Art Center invites artists to submit work for the 2018 All-Media Juried Exhibition, taking place September 7 – October 12.

Three awards of excellence will be presented at the opening reception: Gold $1000, Silver $700, and Bronze $300. Also, back this year will be the People’s Choice Award where gallery visitors get to cast a vote for their favorite.

Entries are due to the art center between Friday, August 31 from 10am-4:30 pm and Saturday, September 1, 10am – 3:30pm. Artists may submit up to two entries at $25 per piece for non-members. Entry forms are available at Oliver Art Center and posted online. The exhibition is generously sponsored by State Savings Bank, Central State Bank, and Webber Insurance.

The 2018 Juror will be Mary Fortuna. Mary Fortuna was active in the Detroit art community for more than 25 years. She graduated from Wayne State University with a BFA in 1992. She has exhibited her work extensively all over Michigan and elsewhere in the United States, and in Berlin, Germany; Bregenz, Austria; Beijing, China; Prague, Czech Republic; and Mirabor, Slovenia. In 2011 she served as a panelist for the Kresge Art in Detroit Fellowship program. Over a period of many years, she served on the Forum for Contemporary Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and on the exhibition committees for the Detroit Artist Market, Detroit Focus and Paint Creek Center for the Arts. She has served as a juror for exhibits all over Michigan. She is a member of artist collective The Slippery Weasel Society. She was the founder and publisher of Ground Up, a publication dedicated to visual art in the Detroit area. She spent thirteen years as the Exhibition Director at Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, Michigan. She has been featured Essay’d – 30 Detroit Artists, published by Wayne State Press, and in Detroit Research Volume 1. She moved to Traverse City in January, 2016, where she continues to exhibit her work and get involved in the art community.
