ANGELA SAXON has been engaged in the last three decades actively pursuing a visual understanding of the landscape. A visual language of horizon, tree, water, sky is universally understood. As a perceptual painter Angela translates what she observes into a personal dialect and uses this language to evoke more than a landscape in her atmospheric work. She holds a BFA in Painting from Indiana University, and has lived in Leelanau County since 1987. www.angelasaxon.com
ROYCE DEANS divides his creative efforts between painting the landscape and the human figure, teaching art, and facilitating art retreats in different parts of the world. A representational expressionist at heart, finding the lyrical gesture in every subject has become most important to his process. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from the American Academy of Art. www.roycedeans.com
LYNN UHLMANN’s paintings are inspired by favorite locations in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. She paints plein air and in the studio using gouache or oil paint. Her work interprets the personalities and rhythmic movement of trees through various levels of abstraction and representation. Her education includes a BFA and MFA. www.lynnuhlmann.com
ANNE CORLETT is from the Saugatuck area and has studied at Oxbow in Saugatuck, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Royal Academy of Art in London. She holds a BA of Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin. She paints in oils, watercolors and pastel and prefers to work outdoors in order to connect to the landscape. “Paintings are a place to explore my relationship to life. When working, I take hold of the energy around me and focus it onto the canvas. This action celebrates existence.” www.annecorlett.com
