Thompsonville: New Belgium Brewing wants you to rethink what a day on the mountain should be all about. Its Mountain Adventure Series hits seven locations this year and for the first time Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, Michigan joins the shenanigans. On Saturday, January 23, skiers and snowboarders will put on their favorite costume and scour the mountain for clues, both roving and stationary, that relate to Crystal Mountain, the benefitting non-profit, and New Belgium.
The festivities end with an awards ceremony for most clues gathered, and for those 21-and-over the after party includes New Belgium beer. Each stop benefits a local non-profit, with funds from the Crystal Mountain stop going to The Spoke Folks, a bike co-op in Grand Rapids.
“This is a great opportunity for the whole family to come out and experience the mountain in a way you’ve never done before,” said Shawn Hines, New Belgium’s Pharoah of Phlow. “We’ll have about 20 clues on the mountain that include trivia and things to find (don’t be surprised if you see a chicken or Bigfoot) and the clues are accessible for most skiers. Costumes are awarded extra points, so don’t be the one who shows up without one!”
To participate, teams can consist of one to four people. It costs $10 per person to join, plus a lift ticket. Once signed up, each team gets a list of clues and the games begin.
