Music on the Bidwell Plaza continues this summer with more talented Northern Michigan musicians. For nine Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. during the months of June, July, and August, the public will be welcome to sit and enjoy great music on the Bidwell Plaza thanks to the generosity of Marsha and Neil Bidwell.
Music on the Bidwell Plaza Summer Series commences its fourth year on Thursday, June 22 with the Crooked Tree Jazz Orchestra (CTJO). The CTJO is Crooked Tree Arts Center’s primary in-house jazz ensemble, as a large jazz group rooted in traditional jazz styles, with occasional journeys into modern pop, funk, and rock music. Mixing both traditional and non-traditional jazz instruments, the CTJO uses a varied repertoire to demonstrate the incredible breadth of America’s jazz music. The Crooked Tree Jazz Combo and Jazz Orchestra are led by CTAC Music Education Director, Kevin Richardson.
On Thursday, June 29, enjoy traditional jazz standards with the Dust Bowl Aristocrats. The trio of local musicians – Doug Beauchamp on clarinet, Owen James on guitar, and Kevin Richardson on bass – put a stripped-down, acoustic spin on the big band hits of the 1930s and 40s.
Bring some lunch, have a seat on the picnic tables at the plaza, or bring your own chairs and enjoy the music. For more information about the Music on the Bidwell Plaza, contact Crooked Tree Arts Center at (231) 347-4337 or visit www.crookedtree.org.
