The Wild Rose Society of Benzie County presents a spring concert featuring Manitou Winds, a local chamber ensemble. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit music scholarships for Benzie County high school students.
This concert brings together all five members of the ensemble and eight different instruments. Aptly titled “New Voices,” Manitou Winds aims to explore the music of lesser-known composers, all written within the last 20 years. Two special guest musicians will join the ensemble: Susan Snyder, collaborative pianist at Interlochen Center for the Arts, will accompany the ensemble on several pieces, and Claire Olinik, soprano, will perform a song cycle featuring poetry written exclusively by women, including Sara Teasdale and Emily Dickinson.
Manitou Winds is partnering with Frankfort artist Ellie Harold for this event. Ellie’s oil painting Up North Jewelscape, which boldly depicts natural elements of the Lake Michigan shoreline, will be featured on the concert’s promotional poster. She will be displaying Up North Jewelscape along with other select paintings inspired by the concert theme in a special exhibition at the church. Ellie has promised a percentage of proceeds from the sale of paintings displayed at the concert will be donated to the Wild Rose Society’s scholarship fund.
