Oliver Art Center presents the colorful and exuberant work of Jamey Barnard and Brian Iler, May 20 through June 18, 2016. Join us for an opening reception on Friday May 20, 5-7pm, free and open to the public. Jamey Barnard will be painting in the gallery, for a public demonstration, on Saturday June 4, at 1pm, also free and open to the public.
In Jamey’s own words “I’m 57 years old and still at it. Banging the drums for art and music. Trying to keep my focus sharp, improvising, knocking things over and spilling things …. playing and wandering with a purpose. Exploring patterns, the weight of colors, and lines in nature. These paintings are some of the largest I’ve painted. I mounted a wide roll of canvas on my studio wall so I could pull down a fresh piece once I had finished (or at least a good start) on the one before it. An assembly line with one worker. I cut the painting o‑ the roll and move it to another wall in my studio to finish and soak it in. Then, maybe, I fiddle with it.”
Brian Iler is a self-taught artist from Royal Oak, Michigan and now lives in the Lake Ann area. He primarily works in paint but also enjoys drawing and photography. He is influenced by great music (and bad), science fiction and fact, drama and comedy in all areas of life and art. He has recently exhibited at The Scarab Club in Detroit, Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, Artspace in Birmingham, PF Galleries in Clawson, Northern Naturals Cider House in Traverse City, and River Street Gallery in Manistee.
