The shed is part of the outdoor educational area of the Boardman River Nature Center, and is open to the public 24/7. We invite you to become a sponsor of this innovative project.
The Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan is installing a green roof garden shed at the Boardman River Nature Center 4 miles south of Traverse City. The shed will be both functional and educational: not only will it store tools and supplies used to maintain the education center, it will also be a resource for visitors interested in learning about green roof technology.
Construction is already underway, with NMC students building the structure as part of their curriculum. We are educating the public before the roof is even on!
The final phase of the project will be the installation of the green roof on October 18, 2015 (rain or shine). The installation of the green roof and plants will be conducted as an educational exhibition open to the public, and provide valuable information about green roof technology to an increasingly conservation-conscious Northern Michigan.
For photos of our progress, check out our GALLERY page.
Lupine, Milkweed, and Coneflower sponsors will all have their names/logos printed, in scaled format, on educational signage at the site. Coneflower sponsors will also have their name/logo etched on a brick, which will be displayed on the walking path at the Nature Center/Conservation District.
