Upcoming Events
Monday January 21 – Peace Day
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm – featuring hands-on peace exploration activities for kids and caregivers. Activities incorporate literacy, socioemotional, sensory development and mathematical reasoning skills. “Drop-in” format activities included related story readings will be ongoing throughout the three hours. Included in admission price.

Wednesday January 23 – Learning About Food with Munson Healthcare
10:30 am to Noon – a new nutrition series aimed at providing hands-on experience and familiarity with healthy food. This is the first of four sessions to be presented at the Museum in collaboration with Munson Medical Center and Munson Community Health Center. Included in admission price.

Saturday January 26 – Kids Yoga with Sarah Townsend Yoga
10:30 am to 11:45 pm – An interactive kids yoga class with active yoga sequences, energizing music, mindfulness, and a mix of individual and group-inspired movement. No prior yoga experience needed. Wear clothing that allows easy movement and bring a mat or towel for your young yogis. Supported in part by funds provided by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Included in admission price.

Wednesday January 30 – STEAM Community Collaboration Event
11:30 am to 1:00 pm – Discussion is free for anyone currently involved or interested in being involved in impacting STEAM efforts in the five county region. Discussions will center around developing a plan to collaborate in a community system to develop, encourage and award best practices while delivering high quality STEAM exposure for all children, families and communities.

Saturday February 2 – Volunteer Open House
11:00 am to 3:00 pm – Co-hosted by the Great Lakes Children’s Museum, Maritime Heritage Alliance, Inland Seas Education Association, Traverse Area Community Sailing, and Watershed Center. Anyone interested in helping with the work of any of these organizations is encouraged to attend. There will be representatives on campus from each organization to answer questions, explain opportunities and help would-be volunteers find a best-fit with one (or more) of the Discovery Center partners. The Museum will be open for regular business but prospective volunteers are welcome to attend the Museum’s open house activities in the Great Lakes room at no charge.

Friday February 8 – Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Dance
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm – An evening of light refreshments, dancing, photos and memory-making for fathers, grandfathers, father figures and daughters at the Museum. Registration via the children’s museum Facebook site recommended. $50 per father/daughter – additional daughters $10 each.
