“New Orleans and Beyond: the Story of Jazz” will be presented by musician and CTAC’s Assistant Director of Music Education, Kevin Richardson.
Having grown up in Okemos, Michigan, Richardson attended college at Western Michigan University. After graduating in 2008 with a degree in instrumental music education, he was hired as the high school orchestra director for Kalamazoo Public Schools. During his tenure in Kalamazoo, the high school orchestra program grew from seven students to over fifty.
Richardson has also performed in a variety of musical ensembles, from orchestras to jazz combos to rock bands, and continues to dabble in composition and songwriting. “Above all else,” he says, “I love teaching music, because it allows me to share my passion for music with other people while providing them with the tools they need to have the kind of enriching musical life I have been fortunate enough to experience. I am very excited to be a part of the Crooked Tree Arts Center, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program.”
This event is free and open to the public, refreshments are available with coffee generously provided by Roast and Toast.
