Should you form a LLC for your small business? Or a S-corp? Or a partnership? What are the legal ramifications for choosing each? Who is liable for what?

Presenter: Attorney John Daugherty, P.L.C

Grow Benzie is hosting a class by noted local lawyer, John Daugherty, as part of the Grow Benzie Incubator Kitchen’s Spring Workshop series. All interested parties are welcome to attend, and this workshop will be of interest to both value added product producers as well as anyone wanting to learn about starting a business.

The form of business chosen for a business entity potentially affects every aspect of its operations and there are many decisions to be made when forming and planning a business. Daugherty will be discussing whether one should form a limited liability company (LLC), a small business (S-corp), or a partnership. He will cover the legal ramifications for choosing each- who is liable for what? Other matters to be addressed are: Why incorporate? What business structure is right for my small business? Can I set up my own company or do I need to hire someone to do it for me? What’s an EIN and do I need one? How does my business structure impact my tax liability?
