Arthur Less is a middling novelist about to turn fifty. When he learns that his former boyfriend is going to be married, he decides to escape the humiliation of attending the wedding by accepting a stack of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world and sets off on a series of adventures that go comically awry. Though this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Andrew Sean Greer focuses on gay men and their relationships, the book is a rumination on the universal themes of time and aging and love.
