Mark your calendars now for August 27 & 28 to come out to Hartwick Pines State Park to enjoy the annual Black Iron Days Festival held at the Logging Museum. From 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, enjoy the sights, sounds, and scents of working blacksmith forges, the historic sawmill cutting logs into pine boards and listen to period music played by a dulcimer band. Also included at Black Iron Days are demonstrations by weavers, wood carvers and other woodcrafters, and wool spinners. There will also be logging demonstrations on both days.
Black Iron Days will be held on the grounds of the Logging Museum at Hartwick Pines State Park. The Logging Museum is a field site of the Michigan Historical Museum and interprets the white pine logging era of 1840-1910. Black Iron Days is sponsored by the Friends of Hartwick Pines and all proceeds go towards the interpretive and educational programs at Hartwick Pines State Park. For more information about Black Iron Days or other programs at Hartwick Pines, please call (989) 348-2537.
