The Grayling Rotary Club’s 16th year of producing a cycling event. New Gran Fondo format of looped routes that start and finish at Hanson Hills Recreation Area (HHRA). Starting format is a mass start for each route with self organized starting corrals based on your MPH, fastest cyclers in the first corral. Loyal Black Bear loyalists and those new to the Black Bear can sign up for either the 100+ mile event or, for those looking for a few less miles, sign up for the new, 53+ mile ride. Dedicated volunteers at corners and rest stops with roving SAG Support.
Chip-timed ride on paved roads through the breathtaking setting of rural northern Michigan’s AuSable River Valley. Riders will travel on both flat and gently rolling hills, past lakes, rivers and forests, with points of interest all along the way. Both routes include the sites of Hanson Hills Recreation Area, Camp Grayling, Wellington Farm Park, Higgins Lake, Houghton Lake, Marl Lake, hills of Sunset Drive. After Sunset Drive, the 53+ miles loop starts heading north on Grayling Road up to Four Mile, past Forest Dunes Golf Club and back to Hanson Hills Recreation Area.
The 100+ mile route continues to the Village of Roscommon, up Chase Bridge Road crossing the Ausable River and Mason Tract paths, Forest Dunes Golf Club, Luzerne and loops back to Grayling. These rides are a challenge for riders of all abilities. Finish line feast and fun. Helmets required. Event held rain or shine
