CHILDREN OF THE 70’S and 80’s… THIS ONE’S FOR YOU ON JULY 23!
BAY VIEW, MI – On Saturday, July 23, Bay View goes retro for a musical tribute that features the best tunes from the late 70’s up through the mid 80’s. “The hardest part is deciding what to choose, since we can pick from hit bands such as Chicago, El DeBarge, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, and more,” Artistic Director and producer Chris Ludwa noted about the production. “After last year’s groundbreaking success of Soul of the 70’s, we realized that we could hire the best front-line performers and put them together with our own band and produce a show with extremely high production values.” The July 23 concert will take place at 8:00 p.m. at Hall Auditorium, 1715 Encampment Ave, in Bay View, Michigan. All are welcome and children under 18 are free, giving parents a huge price break in order to bring their kids and subject them to this trip back into their high school or college years.
This year’s cast hails from all over the country, but each has ties to the Little Traverse region. Kye Brackett, currently touring with Barry Manilow, is a former Young American and will visit with them during his visit. He is joined by Keely Vasquez, a former Schussycat at Schuss Mountain resort in Mancelona who has also toured internationally with Manilow as well as been a professional actor based in Chicago. She brings a sultry, husky tone to the music of this popular era. Finally, Bethany Thomas, another Chicago actor, has worked at Second City and innumerable regional theatres, delivering a powerhouse voice to everything she sings. The three frontliners are joined by an “After Hours” band of Bay View faculty, local guitarist Owen James, three horns, and three backups singers. The setlist is a virtual hit parade of the time period, including tunes by Pointer Sisters, Chaka Kahn, Manilow, Chicago, and much more.
The Bay View Music Festival runs from June 19 through August 18, and features pop, jazz, classical, chamber music, and theatrical productions throughout the summer on the campus just outside of Petoskey. Tickets start at just $18 (Free admission for those under age 18) and can be purchased by calling 888-596-1027 or going on line. For those wanting to purchase in person, Box Office hours are 8:30am-2:30pm at Voorhies Hall, Monday through Sunday and one hour before ticketed events at the performance venue.
