Glen Arbor Art Association’s Artist-In-Residence program begins its 13th season May 4. Linda Beeman, an Owosso, Michigan, resident specializing in Japanese woodblock printing, is this year’s first resident-artist. Beeman’s residency continues through May 17. As part of the program, artists are asked to make a public presentation at the end of their residency. These talks are open to the public at no charge. Beeman’s presentation is Thursday, May 15, 7:30 p.m. at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.
Beeman practices a time-consuming art with ancient roots in Japan. During her GAAA residency, the artist will immerse herself in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, sketching, painting and photographing imagery to translate into carved wood blocks. The work generated as a result of her residency will be exhibited in August at Center Gallery at Lake Street Studios and in Japan, as part of the “Art From the Lakes” exhibition in Tokyo and Shiga, Japan.
