North Central Michigan College’s Student and Community Resource Center will be offering fitness classes for the community this summer. Classes start on July 10 and run through August.
Nan Casey, a Certified Senior Aerobics Instructor, will be teaching two Senior Fit classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. At 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., the class is designed for those 55+ who want to challenge themselves and have fun with a complete aerobic and weight-training workout. Participants will use bands, weights, large and small balls, jump ropes, hula hoops and circles. At 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m., the Senior Fit aerobic workout listed above will also focus on agility and balance, with added emphasis on maintaining and improving balance and strength through agility and balance-based skill exercises. Total cost for each class is $60 for six classes, one per week.
Lynn Turner will offer cardio drumming on Tuesdays from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., July 10-August 14. Total cost is $60 for six classes, one per week. This moderately intense moving class integrates non-timed intervals to challenge you for a total body-toning workout. The stability ball acts like a snare drum as you learn different rhythms to develop coordination and cardio endurance. This class transforms drumming into an incredibly effective workout. Lightly weighed drumsticks will be used. Lynn Turner is the founder and organizer of local drumming circle organization and a current North Central faculty member.
