2011 Student Fiction Writing Contest
The 2011 Student Fiction Writing Contest sponsored by the Second Saturday Writers’ Group, the Erickson Center for the Arts and the Newberry Senior Citizens is now open for submissions. Judging will be based on the originality of ideas, creative use of language, grammar, story structure, spelling and punctuation and overall impression.
The Contest is open to students in grades 9-12. A 500-1,500 word original fiction short story must be submitted no later than February 25, 2011. Title and word count must appear on the first page of the story. Names of characters must be fictitious. To enter the Contest attach one separate cover sheet with your name, address, phone number, grade and school (or home school). Please do not put your name on any other page of the story. Include two stapled copies of your typed story and mail to: Erickson Center for the Arts, PO Box 255, Curtis, MI 49820.
Grand Prize winner will be awarded free registration (excluding lodging) to the upcoming “North of 45 Retreat for Writers.” Other prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as two honorable Mention awards. Entrants may be asked to read their story at a public event.
