Event Details
Are you wondering how this strange season is impacting our local wildlife?
Usually, as our region begins to thaw, we would be tapping maple trees to make syrup and listening to the delightful chorus of spring peepers chirping in the woods. However, due to this winter’s minimal precipitation and unseasonably warm temperatures, followed by another cold snap, we are experiencing a very unusual early spring. These extreme fluctuations pose a challenge for many species in our region, both resident and migratory, who depend on regular seasonal cues to survive and thrive.
On Friday, March 29 from 4-5:30 pm, we invite you to join us for a unique experience along the universally accessible Looyenga Family Trail at Mitchell Creek Meadows: The Don and Jerry Oleson Nature Preserve. With Land Stewardship Specialist Steve Lagerquist as our guide, we will explore some of the effects this year’s unusually warm winter has had on our region’s wildlife.
Please note that registration for this event is required, as space is limited and any modifications will be communicated to registered attendees by email. Secure your spot by visiting our website using the link below, and be sure to bring your curiosity! We look forward to sharing this unique experience with you.

TART Trails & Up North Pride are pleased to present open registration for the 2024 Rainbow Run, a color fun run and fundraiser around the Boardman Lake Loop Trail. To celebrate the trail systems and the Northern Michigan 2SLGBTQ+ community during Pride Month, the event, on June 22, 2024, will invite participants to join together at Hull Park to enjoy music and refreshments before and after the run.
Enjoy a 4-mile run around the Boardman Lake Loop Trail with lots of color. There will be 5 distinct and separated stations along the route for participants to receive their colors. We will be using a powder made of colored cornstarch that will be human, fish, and environment-friendly and will wash out after a rain to have no long-lasting effects on the park or City infrastructure.
Register today HERE.

Stafford’s Top of Michigan Festival of Races includes a series of races to benefit the Top of Michigan Trails Council and the Petoskey High School Track and Cross Country teams.
The course is run along the Little Traverse Wheelway, a nonmotorized trail that runs from Charlevoix, through Petoskey/Bay Harbor and onto Harbor Springs. This year, our course will be out and backs from Petoskey’s waterfront. The trail is an excellent venue for runners. The trail is relatively flat and has spectacular views of the Little Traverse Bay. Please note that there are a few off road sections of this route, on grass and dirt.
The Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k start and end in Petoskey. The course is mostly paved, with some sections on grass and a short section on trail, connecting into the Petoskey State Park for the 10k and Half Marathon.

Event Details
Please join us on July 27 and July 28, 2024, for the first annual ART SPLASH! It’s a unique and diverse art experience in Cheboygan, MI. Our festival will feature a juried fine art show and a creative maker’s market. In addition, there will be numerous art-related activities in town including Saturday workshops at a local multi-media studio, walking the Cheboygan Art Trail and a children’s art project at Ottawa Art Park.
This two-day juried fine art festival will be held on a public, grassy lot on Main Street in Cheboygan. Only a few steps away from our incredible Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, which will run concurrently with ART SPLASH! Prizes for best in show $300, 2nd place $200, and 3rd place $100 will be awarded on July 28.
The Creative Maker’s Market will be held in the Opera House parking lot, which is adjacent to the juried art. All three events (ART SPLASH, The Creative Maker’s Market and the Farmer’s Market) are connected by a stretch of Huron Street that will be closed off to traffic to allow for the easy flow of patrons.
