Magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you’ve ever seen. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, SMOKEFALL explores the lives of a family in a lyrical treatise on the fragility of life and the power of love. “SMOKEFALL is a glorious play…with a unique blend of sophistication and open-heartedness. It is a work that leaves you thinking about every human connection you have, whether on an intimate scale (with your family), or the cosmic one (the whole grand cycle of life and death). Haidle’s genius is that along with the pain and wistfulness come great bursts of true comic brilliance, so you leave the theater in a strange state of tearful exuberance.”

Welcome! The Grand Traverse Audubon Club members enjoy birding together, meeting for nature-oriented programs or field trips, and participating in service projects related to the environment. We are concerned about the preservation of habitat for wildlife, and natural areas for the enjoyment of all residents. We are a chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society.
Our regular meetings are usually the fourth Thursday of the month at the Boardman River Nature Center on Cass Road at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend!
Our Next Meeting: SEPTEMBER 22 (Thursday) – Regular Meeting
Members Maryellen Newport and Kirk Waterstripe will discuss some of the new information about migration in a slide show, and then proceed outside to listen with a parabolic microphone for migrants passing overhead! Watch your email for the adjusted start time, because migrants start flying about an hour after sunset.

Two moms agree to meet for coffee during naptime
in the sweet spot behind their adjoining yards where both their baby monitors
get reception, and a fast friendship is born. But their intimacy is punctured
when a stranger who lives in the mansion up on the cliff appears in the yard,
asking if they would include his wife, a new mom who is having “a hard time.”
Reluctantly, the duo tries to become a trio, but with very mixed—and
surprising—results. A comedy with dark edges, Cry It Out takes an honest
look at the absurdities of being home with a baby, the power of female
friendship, the dilemma of going back to work, and the effect class has on
parenthood in America. Note: This performance includes adult language and
situations.

Stewart Huff was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has been performing comedy for over 15 years, beginning when he decided to drop out of college to become a writer.
Currently touring theaters, comedy clubs, and special events across the country, Huff reaches past the norm for his genuine — and genuinely unexpected — comedy. His knack for embracing the foibles of humanity and his refreshing originality make him as likeable as he is hilarious. A storyteller at heart, Huff continues to amaze with his clever material and personal wit.
Huff has performed in comedy clubs nationally and internationally, including the Improv in Los Angeles and New York, the Punchline in Atlanta and the Funny Bone in Omaha, as well as countless others. A finalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival, Huff was also invited to perform in the HBO Las Vegas Festival, where his act can be viewed on pay-per-view. Stewart was also the 2016 Critics Choice of the Best Comedy at the Orlando Fringe Festival.
He currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his girlfriend. There he drops off the various items he collects while on the road, including an antique barber chair, countless vintage photographs, and an extensive collection of LP’s. She likes this.

TCLP is working to develop a Climate Action Plan to “identify innovative utility solutions designed to reduce our carbon impact while protecting grid resiliency,” according to the utility. A new website created for the project – TCLPCAP.org – states that “while TCLP is aware of the ongoing debate as to the reality or severity of ‘climate change,’ its actions and goals demonstrate its value for climate health. TCLP desires to determine and strategize its role as an active participant in climate health in a manner that allows it to sustain utility business and services while being mindful of its impact to all people, its financial viability, and the planet it shares. To that end, TCLP intends to develop and implement a strategic framework for measuring, planning and positively impacting the climate…this strategic framework will be utilized for future corporate strategic planning as well as further collaboration with the Traverse City community and government.”
To help develop the plan, TCLP will host four public houses between now and April focused on creating a “strategy for a clean energy future.” Each of the four free events will highlight a different energy solution. Attendees can register in advance online and will be entered to win a Giant/Momentum LAFREE E+ E-bike (valued at $2,400) that will be given away at the end of the open house series. The open house schedule is as follows (all events are from 4pm to 6pm at the Traverse Area District Library on Woodmere Avenue):
Open House 1: October 25, 2022 – Energy Waste Reduction, Demand Response, Electrification
Open House 2: November 16, 2022 – Distributed Energy Resources, Energy Storage, Carbon Neutrality
Open House 3: March 15, 2023 – Integrated Resource Plan Development
Open House 4: April 5, 2023 – Review of the Developed Integrated Resource Plan
“We are excited to start this journey and look forward to these open houses and the opportunities and insights they will bring,” says TCP Executive Director Brandie Ekren. “The community has an opportunity to play a role in developing a clean energy future, and we strongly encourage everyone to attend.” The Climate Action Plan will go to the TCLP board for approval in spring 2023, which will be followed by a public unveiling, according to the project website.

Our Homeschool Program will meet once a week for the Winter/Spring 2023 session on Thursday from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. February 2 through April 27 (No class on March 30.)
The GTCD Homeschool program gives children the opportunity to study and connect to the natural world while being outdoors. Through guided exploration and hands-on, nature-based activities, this program engages children in appreciating and conserving Northwest Michigan’s natural features.
Sessions will be run on Thursdays, February 2 through April 27 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. These two-hour active-learning sessions will include themes based on environmental topics for ages 7-12 years old. We encourage appropriate dress for the weather and any possible conditions that may arise. These programs are drop-off and unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. Please refer to our family guide on our website for pickup and drop-off procedures.
